Press Release - Senators Alan and Pia extend more livelihood packages to Vigan, Ilocos Sur Residents on Labor Day

Honoring the hard work and perseverance of Filipino laborers, the offices of Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano visited Vigan, Ilocos Sur on May 1, 2024 to provide more livelihood programs for a total of 56 residents.

The timely disbursement provided support to two groups: the Sinait Garlic Growers and a parents' group in Sinait.

"Sa tulong na ibinigay sa aming asosasyon, malaking tulong po ito sa pagp-process ng bawang," said Reginaldo Tumbaga, one of 26 recipients from the Sinait Garlic Growers whose livelihood depends on garlic processing.

Similarly, 30 members of a parents' group in Sinait received vital aid to enhance their livelihoods, which include running sari-sari stores, selling frozen goods, retailing rice, and raising goats.

One beneficiary who raises goats to support his family, Erwin de Peralta, expressed gratitude for the aid he received. "Salamat po sa ibinigay ninyong pangkabuhayan, makakaasa po kayo na mapapalaki namin ito, talagang malaking tulong po ito sa amin," he said.

Another goat raiser, Reymar Palino, said the assistance he received would help cover his family's daily expenses.

"Ako po ay nagpapasalamat sa napakagandang programa na talagang makakatulong po sa aming mahihirap," he said.

This is the second time the Cayetano siblings have provided timely aid to those engaged in goat rearing in Sinait, following the initial disbursement activity on March 16, 2024.

The senators collaborated with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through its Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) to provide Vigan City residents with the vital livelihood package.

DILP, a flagship initiative, aims to broaden economic opportunities for workers by offering assistance for capacity building in entrepreneurial ventures.

The successful execution of the activity in Vigan was attributed to the dedication and support of Governor Jerry Singson.

The sibling senators remain committed to providing essential assistance to Filipinos nationwide, enhancing their livelihoods and expanding their economic opportunities.
