Probers dig for motive in Jumalon killing

AFTER the release of a computerized facial composite of one of the suspects in the assassination of radioman Juan Jumalon, authorities are pursuing leads to determine the motive for the crime.

Philippine National Police chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. said Monday that investigators are looking for possible angles and motives for the fatal gun attack on the 57-year-old broadcaster early on Sunday.

«There had been motives that were mentioned, but for the sake of the conduct of investigations, we don't want speculations so as not to preempt the process. We are following up on motives, but I am not at liberty to divulge [any information yet] in order not to jeopardize the investigation,» Acorda said.

Nevertheless, the top policeman said that one of the motives could be work-related and the other is possibly personal.

Acorda said there's no timeline in the conduct of the investigation «as we might be forcing police to create their own scenario.»

Jumalon, anchor of Calamba GOLD 94.7 FM station, was shot dead at close range inside his home radio station in Barangay Don Bernardo A. Neri, Calamba, Misamis Occidental, at about 5:35 a.m. on Sunday.

Earlier, the Misamis Occidental Provincial Police Office provided additional details of the suspect: approximately 5«5' in height, age 40, about 70 kilos, wearing a red cap, gray T-shirt and black short pants.

The radioman known as „Johnny Walker“ is also an employee of the Calamba Water District. He was broadcasting live when the suspect entered his house, barged into his booth and shot him.

The killing was seen on a live stream via Facebook. Also, the suspect was caught in CCTV footage outside the gate of the suspect's residence.

The victim was rushed to the Calamba District Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Reports said there were two suspects that pulled off the assassination of Jumalon, but probers are still digging deeper for possible motives.
