Remulla hails PNP for reduced crime rate

LOCAL Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla commended the Philippine National Police (PNP) for its effort to bring down the national crime rate by 62 percent.

Data showed the total reported criminal incidents between July 1, 2022, and July 28, 2024, was 83,059, a sharp decrease from the 217,830 recorded during the same period from 2016 to 2018.

The PNP reported notable improvements in crime clearance efficiency and crime solution efficiency, with increases of 27 percent and 10 percent, respectively.

«These significant feats are a testament to the unrelenting commitment of the PNP to continuously serve and protect the public from criminality and lawlessness,» Remulla said in a statement.

«With this positive development, the DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government) urges the PNP to continuously fulfill their sworn duties as vanguards of peace and order toward a safe and peaceful Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines),» he added.

Remulla said the drop in criminality was indicative of the enhanced security landscape under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
