Roads leading to Batasan Complex closed for SONA on July 22

MANILA, Philippines — Alternative routes and a zipper lane for counter-flow traffic have been set up by law enforcement agencies, led by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), in connection with the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on July 22, 2024.

Quezon City Mayor Maria Josefina «Joy» Belmonte told The Manila Times that the local government partnered with the Task Force SONA 2024, led by the Philippine National Police, Presidential Security Group and Quezon City Police District, to implement security measures for Monday's event.

She said the city's Transport and Traffic Management (TTM) has been closely coordinating with the MMDA to ensure the smooth enforcement of rerouting plans near and within the House of the Representatives where Marcos will deliver his third SONA.

A zipper lane or counter-flow will be implemented along Commonwealth Avenue (southbound portion) to allow vehicles of government officials and visitors to the National Legislative Complex, the city government said.

Meanwhile, the Batasan-IBP Road will be closed to public vehicles starting at 8 a.m. on Monday as part of the security measures.

Motorists are advised to take the alternative routes due to the expected heavy traffic flow along Commonwealth Avenue and around the Batasan complex.
