Senate spouses hold relief operation

THE Senate Spouses Foundation Inc. (SSFI) led by Heart Evangelista-Escudero on Friday distributed aid to 2,600 Marikina City residents displaced by floods brought by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon «Carina.»

Four hundred seventy-two families temporarily housed at the Sto. Niño Elementary School received packages containing rice, canned goods, vitamin C tablets, toiletries and hygiene kits.

«We in the Senate Spouses Foundation Inc. are merely instruments to help and continue the provision of blessings,» Evangelista-Escudero said.

SSFI members who joined the operation include Kathryna Yu-Pimentel, Nancy Dela Rosa, and Emmeline Aglipay-Villar.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council reported on Thursday that more than 1.1 million individuals have been affected by the calamity with 630,000 individuals displaced as of July 25.

«The 360,000 (food packs) were either being picked up as we speak or were already deployed as of last night, but they are all in the ground,» Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian said.
