The Manila Times awards short documentary grants to three filmmakers

The Manila Times is proud to announce the recipients of its short documentary grant, awarded to three outstanding students from the second batch of The Manila Times School of Journalism's Masterclass in Visual Storytelling of True Tales. This initiative reaffirms The Manila Times' commitment to supporting emerging talents in the field of documentary filmmaking.

Janina Magundayao, Charles Kirby Fabellon, and Jb Corpuz were selected for their compelling documentary pitches, which were developed during the masterclass held from May 6 to 14, 2024. Each grant will provide production support as these talented filmmakers bring their ideas to life.

«The selection process was tough because our students submitted some truly exceptional work. We're genuinely excited to support these three filmmakers as they bring their projects to life, and we can't wait to see their unique stories unfold,» said The Manila Times Chairman and CEO Dante Francis «Klink» Ang 2nd.

«The Manila Times is committed to nurturing documentary filmmakers in the Philippines, and we have more plans in the works to continue supporting and empowering these talented storytellers. We also want to create a platform where their work can be showcased and celebrated,» he further said.

The Manila Times School of Journalism's Masterclass on Visual Storytelling of True Tales is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to produce compelling documentaries.

The most recent workshop was led by established filmmakers, including She Andes, Tey Clamor, and Demie Dangla. During the workshop, the students explored various aspects of documentary filmmaking, from directing and producing to cinematography and distribution.

Building on the success of its inaugural edition, the masterclass underscores The Manila Times' commitment to nurturing and promoting documentary filmmaking in the Philippines. Last year's masterclass featured filmmakers Baby Ruth Villarama, Sari Dalena, and Alemberg Ang.
