23-yr-old medico from Andhra Pradesh dies in road accident in Philippines

VIJAYAWADA: Ayodhya Jayasurya (23), a native of Penamaluru in Krishna district, died in a road accident at Cebu in Philippines on Sunday night. The incident came to light when Jayasurya's father, Dr Satyanarayana, approached Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) for assistance in bringing home the mortal remains of his son. Dr Satyanarayana told TOI that Jayasurya completed his schooling in Vijayawada, and intermediate in Guntur. He got admission at UV Gullas College of Medicine in Cebu (Philippines) in 2019. Due to Covid-19, he returned home in 2020 and attended online classes apart from working in a private hospital in Vijayawada for two years as an assistant to a doctor. In August 2022, Jayasurya went back to Philippines and continued his studies. He was pursuing his fourth year and scheduled to sit for his examinations in October - November. "My son said he would be coming home after his exams. He was waiting for the exam schedule to be released to book a flight ticket. On Sunday night, I received a phone call from Jayasurya's roommate Viswanath who informed me about the tragedy," he said. Satyanarayana said Viswanath is making all efforts to repatriate the mortal remains of Jayasurya and is taking up the matter with the Indian embassy for completion of local formalities. The family wants to perform the final rituals as per their tradition in their hometown.
