1 dead, 5 others injured in Maguindanao del Sur blast

MANILA, Philippines: One person was killed and five others were wounded following an explosion in Maguindanao del Sur shortly after midnight on Friday, a report from the Police Regional Office in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) said.

The blast in South Upi occurred while victims were preparing for a family event at Sitio Mafran, Barangay Pilar.

Authorities strongly condemned the incident.

«We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased. Rest assured that PRO BAR (Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region) will carry out an in-depth investigation for the swift identification of the suspects,» a statement from PRO Bar said.

The explosion on Friday occurred barely six days after an improvised explosive device went off inside the gymnasium of the Mindanao State University in Marawi City, killing 4 people and injuring 54 others on December 3.
