2 LPAs monitored inside PH -- Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Friday that it was closely monitoring two low pressure areas (LPAs) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the first LPA was 135 kilometers west-southwest of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro while the newly-spotted weather disturbance was 880kms off Eastern Visayas.

The LPA off Oriental Mindoro may eventually dissipate in the coming days while the one over Eastern Visayas would unlikely affect the country in at least over the next three days, the Pagasa forecaster said.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa said Northern Palawan and Occidental Mindoro would be experiencing overcast skies with scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms due to LPA.

Its trough, meanwhile, is affecting Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and the rest of Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), it added.

The southwest monsoon or «habagat» will prevail over Mindanao and the rest of Visayas where cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms would be likely.

The rest of Luzon will likely experience isolated downpours or thunderstorms due to the localized thunderstorms, the state weather bureau said.
