2K Taiwan jobs up for grabs – MECO

THOUSANDS of job opportunities will be up for grabs in a series of job fairs that will be held in key areas of the country this year to fill up vacancies in Taiwan, the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) said.

Former labor secretary and now MECO Chairman Silvestre Bello III disclosed on Monday that for a start, a special one-day job fair and career expo will be held in Isabela on June 7 with more than 2,000 job vacancies in Taiwan awaiting Filipino jobseekers.

Bello said that the first job fair that will be held in his home province of Isabela is only an initial job-matching event by Taiwanese companies in the Philippines, which will be replicated in other urban centers of the country.

«And we intend to have a Metro Manila fair for Taiwan jobs probably before the end of the year,» Bello said.

About 12 Taiwanese employers, recruitment agencies and universities will fly to Ilagan City to screen and interview prospective applicants for positions in various factories. Also available are jobs for caregivers and scholarship slots for students.

I-Mei Foods, one of Taiwan's leading food processing and manufacturing companies, is among the participating employers.

Interested applicants are required to preregister in the registration portal of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and indicate the company where they wish to apply. Requirements and qualifications for the available jobs are also posted on the website.

Participating agencies will conduct a prescreening of applicants prior to the actual job fair.

For the career expo, at least three universities will offer scholarships to students who will qualify on June 7. Participating schools are the Minghsin University of Science and Technology, Taipei University of Science and Technology, and Kunshan University.

Aside from MECO and DMW, the job fair has also drawn the active role of the Public Employment Service Office of Isabela, the provincial government and the local government units.
