2nd Mayor Cabaron inter-town sportsfest gets underway today | The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The cash-rich 2nd Mayor Inocentes Cabaron Invitational Inter-Town Basketball and Volleyball Tournament comes off the wraps today at the Moalboal Sports Complex in Moalboal town, south of Cebu.

In basketball that offers a staggering P500,000 in cash prize to the top performers, a dozen teams divided into two groups

will be slugging it out for the covered crown of the two-month cage wars that is among the highlights of Moalboal’s annual fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patron San Juan Nepomuceno on May 19.

Argao, Aloguinsan, Malabuyoc, Badian, Dumanjug, and Ronda are bundled in Group A, while Sibonga, Samboan, Barili, Dalaguete, Boljoon,  and Alcantara will lock horns in  Group B.

Ronda will go up against Badian in the 6:45 p.m. opener, while Barili will mix it up with Samboan in the main match at 8:45 p.m.

On Sunday, Malabuyoc will open its campaign versus Badian in the first game, right before Sibonga will collide with Boljoon.

The champion will take home P200,000, while the second to fourth placers will pocket P150,000, P100,000 and P50,000, respectively.

On the other hand, the volleyball events features the men’s and women’s divisions.

The Moalboal spikers under the tutelage of coach Dave Cabaron will tangle with teams from Barili, Dumanjug, Ronda, Alcantara, Badian, Malabuyoc, and Alegria.

The champions in each division will go home P50,000 richer, while first runners-up will receive P30,000 apiece.

The third and fourth will get P20,000 and P10,000. – EBV
