6,256 ‘bad eggs’ penalized by PNP Internal Affairs Service

A TOTAL of 6,256 policemen have been found guilty by the PNP Internal Affairs Service (IAS) of committing various offenses under the administration of President Marcos Jr., the IAS reported yesterday.

IAS Director General Brigido Dulay said 572 cops were recommended for dismissal from the service, 260 were demoted in rank and 1,418 were suspended.

The others were meted with penalties such as reprimand and withholding of privileges, among others.

“During the entire administration of President Marcos Jr., we have had a total of 6,256 convictions against PNP personnel. So 6,256 were penalized, convicted PNP personnel during the time of President Marcos….from July 1, 2022 to the present,” said Dulay.

Dulay said the cops were found guilty of offenses ranging from grave misconduct to simple misconduct.

He said the highest-ranking policeman to be penalized was a colonel but did not identify the cop. The punishment was also not divulged.

Most of the policemen found guilty of administrative charges were non-commissioned officers (PNCOs), or those holding ranks of patrolman to executive master sergeant.

For this year alone, Dulay said 42 police commissioned officers and 204 PNCOs have been slapped with various penalties, including dismissal from the service.

Dulay said these penalties were imposed as part of the PNP’s internal cleansing process.

“The cleansing process is continuing, its ongoing…We continue to go after policemen who have committed offenses. The (internal cleansing) reform is continuing. It’s not yet over, it’s continuing,” said Dulay.

He said not all administrative cases against police are handled by IAS, saying these can also be handled by regional and district offices of the PNP, the National Police Commission, and the People’s Law Enforcement Boards at the local government level.

“IAS is just one of the many offices where people can lodge their complaint (against policemen),” said Dulay.
