Aghon impact in Calabarzon minimal

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Aghon, the country’s first tropical depression this year, caused minimal impact in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), according to the regional disaster and risk reduction management office.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised signal No. 2 in the northern and central portions of Quezon province.

Signal No. 1 was raised over Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal and the rest of Quezon.

Up to 1,835 evacuation centers were readied regionwide for the expected influx of evacuees.  Of the figure, only five were occupied by 81 families or 194 people.

Some parts of Batangas, Cavite, Laguna and Quezon experienced power outages.

Search and rescue teams as well as reactionary standby support forces were formed to respond to emergency situations.

Around 2,423 passengers were reported stranded in seaports nationwide.

Fishermen were prohibited from venturing out into the sea due to danger posed by Aghon.
