Aghon not expected to dump rain as it continues to gain strength

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Aghon is not expected to dump rain although it maintained its strength while crossing the Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday.

Estimated 100 kilometers east-southeast of Casiguran, Aurora, Aghon is moving northeastward at 10 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph, Pagasa said in its 11 a.m. bulletin.

It is expected to intensify in the next two days and will likely exit on Wednesday afternoon or evening.

Pagasa said that Signal No. 2 remains hoisted in the southeastern portion of Isabela (Dinapigue and Palanan) and the northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag and Casiguran).

Meanwhile, Signal No. 1 is up in the northeastern and southern portions of Isabela (Divilacan, San Mariano, San Guillermo, Jones, Echague, San Agustin, Ilagan City, Benito Soliven, City of Cauayan, Maconacon, Angadanan and Naguilian), the eastern portion of Quirino (Maddela, Nagtipunan and Aglipay), the southern portion of Nueva Vizcaya (Alfonso Castaneda), the rest of Aurora, the northern portion of Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta and Real) including Polillo Islands, and the northwestern portion of Camarines Norte (Paracale, Jose Panganiban, Vinzons and Capalonga) including Calaguas Islands, also in Luzon.
