Arellano whips EAC, stays in Final 4 race

MANILA, Philippines — Arellano University rode on Pauline de Guzman’s sterling performance as it trounced Emilio Aguinaldo College, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20, 25-20, yesterday to stay in the Final Four race in NCAA Season 99 women’s volleyball at the Filoil EcoOil Arena.

De Guzman powered her way to 17 points, including 16 on kills, while contributing immensely in floor defense with 10 digs as the Lady Chiefs copped their fifth win against three defeats that bolstered their Final Four aspiration.

“Every game, ang mindset namin, ay i-treat as a championship game. Hindi na po kasi kami pwede matalo,” said De Guzman, who has somehow recovered from a motorcycle accident before the season started.

“Training lang palagi at doble ensayo lang talaga,” she added.

The Lady Chiefs are eyeing a return to the Final Four after failing to qualify last year, which was a disappointment considering they made the finals the year before and won a three-peat feat in 2019.

But for it to be possible, AU must beat Jose Rizal U in the former’s final elimination-round assignment Tuesday.
