Ateneo standout Joson heads to Australia's NBL1
MANILA, Philippines — Another Filipina is set to play Down Under as Ateneo alumni Jhazmin Joson announced her signing with the Goldfields Giants in semi-professional league NBL1 in Australia.
Joson, who also helped Gilas Pilipinas women reach the quarterfinals of the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup in Singapore, joins former National University Lady Bulldogs star Jack Animam in the league as the latter plays for the Ringwood Hawks.
Joson’s Giants play in the West Conference, while the Hawks are in the South.
“Congratulations to Jhaz Joson for signing with NBL1 team Goldfields Giants, an NBL1 West club based in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The Giants got a good one,” Titan Management Group, which handles Joson, wrote on Instagram.
During her final year with the Blue Eagles, Joson bagged a Mythical Five citation.
Meanwhile, she has seen multiple stints with Gilas, with the latest coming just last week with the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup.
She averaged six points and 2.7 rebounds in the three main draw games they played.
Joson thus joins a Giants team that ended up 11th in the league last year with a 4-16 slate. They missed the playoffs in the West Conference.
