Ayala Corp. raises P6 million from tACbo

MANILA, Philippines — Ayala Corp., through Ayala Foundation, raised P6 million from a running event it organized as part of its 190th anniversary.

The event, dubbed tACbo, gathered runners, fitness enthusiasts, and education advocates last Jan. 14.

It attracted as many as 6,000 participants in 21 kilometer, 10-km, five-km, three-km and one-km categories.

Of the P6 million raised during the event, P1 million came from the Ayala Multi-Purpose Cooperative (AMPC).

Ayala Corp. chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and Ayala Foundation chairman Fernando Zobel de Ayala presented the funds raised during the event. The funds were received by Ayala Foundation vice chairman Jaime Urquijo and Ayala Foundation president Tony Lambino along with students from the foundation’s education communities.

“Thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives of Ben and his classmates,” said Lambino, referring to Ben Daniel Mercado, a grade six student from CENTEX Manila who spoke on behalf of his school.

CENTEX, or the Center of Excellence in Public Elementary Education, provides holistic, quality education to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

It is one of Ayala Foundation’s longest-running education programs.

“We are so happy that we have all run a few kilometers with them today, as we wish them the very best on their journeys,” Lambino added.

Ayala Foundation is the social development arm of the Ayala Group.

It envisions communities where people are productive, creative, self-reliant and proud to be Filipino. It has interventions for the public education sector, under the CENTEX banner.

Established in 1998, CENTEX focuses on the essentials for lifelong learning, including classroom pedagogy, development of critical thinking skills, values clarification and use of technology in the classroom.

Initiatives include early childhood care and development or ECCD, K to 6 through teacher training and even parent and community engagement.

CENTEX also holds teacher training initiatives that promote student development and community engagement. Present in 19 locations, CENTEX, through its Training Institute, has trained and mentored 10,644 public school teachers since
