Barreto creates ripples at PNG

MANILA, Philippines — Tanker Miguel Barreto of Bulacan, woodpushers Kylen Joy Mordido and Michael Concio Jr. of Dasmariñas, and aerobic gymnasts Dustin Kim Villafuerte and Airam Dan Dadulla of Rizal came through with worthy performances at the close of the Philippine National Games.

Barreto splashed his way to the 200-meter freestyle mint in a minute and 53.05 seconds to emerge with a four-gold haul in swimming at the PhilSports pool in Pasig City.

Barreto, whose other triumphs came in 100m and 400m free, and 200m Individual Medley, failed to claim a fifth gold after ending up fifth in the 50m breaststroke ruled by Santiago City’s Jalil Sephraim Taguinod, who clocked 29.72 seconds.

Mordido and Concio each copped three golds with the former prevailing in standard individual and team with Jerlyn San Diego and individual blitz while the latter won in individual blitz and team rapid and blitz with fellow International Master Daniel Quizon at the GSIS Gymnasium.

Villafuerte and Dadulla struck gold in the men’s and women’s junior individual event, teamed up to rule the mixed pair event and then joined forces again along with Clark Manalo in topping the trio to end up with a three-gold haul.

Baguio City continued to deliver in martial events, this time scooping four golds in kickboxing.
