BBM must let go as DA Secretary

The President said the prices and the availability of rice, not survey numbers, are the indicators of his governance, adding prices of food are stabilizing because of measures implemented by the government

When  President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was asked by reporters about his reaction to the recent Pulse Asia survey on his approval and trust ratings that have gone down by as much as 15 percent from a high of 80 percent, he said “Rice prices, not surveys, will measure my government.”

BBM said the prices and the availability of rice, not survey numbers, are the indicators of his governance, adding prices of food are stabilizing because of measures implemented by the government.

Santa Banana, to a great extent, I agree with him that while people are hurting because of the high prices of almost everything such as food, services, transport, water and electricity, with the onset of the harvest season, the prices of the main staple have the tendency to go down!

He continued the prices of rice insofar as ordinary milled rice is at P41/kilo and of well-milled rice at P45/kilo.

Yes, I agree with BBM insofar as rice is concerned.

I have seen in the past that at this time of the year during the years when rice supply started to get thin, people even had to line up to be rationed with the main staple. Thank God, it has not happened!

However, the many reasons for the decline of approval and trust ratings of Marcos Jr. are not only on the price issue and its affordability.

People are also concerned about inflation, jobs, wages and the constant intimidation and bullying of the Philippines by China at the West Philippine Sea at the Exclusive Economic Zone.

People have asked me so many times whether or not there will be a war with China, and whether or not the United States will truly come to our assistance.

These are big concerns of the people, especially of the rising incidence of poverty and how to have food on the table.

Indeed, surveys are not only proof of governance for national leaders, but the decline of BBM’s approval and trust rating should also worry the President because of the many threats and challenges he is now facing.
