Biden move demonstration of genuine statesmanship - Marcos

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday tagged the decision of United States President Joe Biden to not seek re-election as a «demonstration of genuine statesmanship.»

«President Biden's decision to withdraw his candidacy is a demonstration of genuine statesmanship,» Marcos said in a statement posted on his official account on X, formerly Twitter.

The 81-year-old Biden announced Sunday he was withdrawing from the presidential race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party's new nominee.

Marcos, who has made four official visits to the United States, thanked Biden for being an ally of the Philippines.

«We thank him for his constant and unwavering support for the Philippines in a delicate and difficult time. We wish him well for the rest of his presidency and for all his future endeavors,» the chief executive said.
