Caritas official urges voters not to support political dynasties
MANILA, Philippines — Do not support candidates belonging to political dynasties in the 2025 midterm elections.
That was the call of Caritas Philippines’ vice chairman, San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza of Negros Occidental.
In an interview yesterday over Radio Veritas, Alminaza appealed to the public to be vigilant in monitoring who among those filing their certificates of candidacy from Oct. 1 to 8 belong to political families.
“Let’s keep an eye on the filing of candidacy, let’s see if there’s a political dynasty, let’s file a disqualification case together,” he said.
Alminaza also encouraged Filipinos to participate and exercise their right to vote on May 12, 2025.
He said, “I encourage Filipinos who are capable of coming out for the good of our country, and to the voters, let’s support those we know who are really worthy to serve the nation. Let’s help them.”
Caritas Philippines is part of the recently launched Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Mamamayan, a broad coalition composed of retired military and uniformed personnel; faith-based communities and the clergy; women’s groups; youth organizations; business and professional groups; people’s organizations and civil society, which aims to fight corruption, political dynasties and systemic electoral fraud.
