Caritas PH calls for aid for Kanlaon communities
WITH Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island still under Alert Level 2, Caritas Philippines is calling on the faithful to help in assisting communities affected by the “explosive eruption” on June 3.
Donations can be in cash or in kind, said Fr. Carmelo Caluag, executive director of Caritas Philippines which is the humanitarian arm of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
“It looks like this is not yet ending soon so we have to be prepared with the provisions needed to help them,” he said.
He said Caritas would like to continue helping those still in evacuation centers.
“They will still need face masks, food, and especially water. We hope to continue providing them support,” he said.
Earlier, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed P25.83 million worth of assistance composed of food packs and non-food relief items like hygiene kits to communities affected by the volcano’s eruption.
