Cavite governor Jonvic Remulla to take oath as DILG secretary – DoJ chief

MANILA, Philippines — Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed on Monday that his brother, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, is poised to be the next secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Remulla will replace Benjamin Abalos Jr. who filed his Certificate of Candidacy (CoC) for senator.

The Justice secretary said his brother's oath-taking was scheduled for Tuesday.

«In fact, I think he's withdrawing from candidacy as we speak,» Remulla told reporters.

He expressed optimism about the positive impact his brother's appointment would have on the country's justice system. He said that closer coordination between the DoJ and DILG will streamline efforts for reforms.

«The commitments can be made instantly because the two of us can always talk about what has to be done,» Remulla added. «We only want the best for our country. We don't have any other motives.»
