CHED told: Ensure all Pinoys have access to quality education

PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. yesterday directed members of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to ensure that every Filipino has access to quality education and sustain efforts to promote academic excellence and innovation across different higher education institutions in the country.

The President made the directive after administering the oath of office to a new official and promoted officers of CHED led by former Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) president and now Commissioner Shirley Agrupis.

“Education is the foundation of a strong and prosperous nation. With their leadership, we can ensure that every Filipino—from the most remote communities to our urban centers—has access to quality education. Let us continue to drive academic excellence and innovation across our higher education institutions,” Marcos said in an Instagram post after the oath taking.

Agrupis, prior to her appointment to CHED, held various designations at MMSU, including president for two terms and director for External Affairs and Partnerships.

She is an alumna of the MMSU where she earned her Bachelors of Science in Biology degree.

She holds a Master’s of Science degree on Plant Morpho-Anatomy and Physiology from the University of the Philippines, and Doctor’s degree of Philosophy on Agricultural Science from Shizuoka University in Japan.

Aside from Agrupis, the other oath takers were Jimmy Catanes, Mary Sylvette Gunigundo, and Lora Yusi, all Director IV; and Aline Magalong, Marco Cicero Domingo and Rody Garcia, all Director III.
