Classes suspended in Camanava due to bad weather

MANILA, Philippines — The four local government units (LGUs) in Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela) on Wednesday suspended in-person classes due to inclement weather brought by the southwest monsoon or «habagat.»

In Caloocan, Mayor Dave Gonzalo Malapitan announced the suspension of classes in all levels for all public and private schools in the city.

Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie Gatchalian told The Manila Times that they have an ordinance that calls for an automatic class suspension during heavy rainfall and flooding.

«This is applicable for pre-school, kindergarten, elementary and junior and senior high school,» Gatchalian said.

For tertiary levels, students will only have online classes during a typhoon under Signal No. 1 but classes will be automatically suspended during higher storm alerts, he said.

Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco said the suspension of face-to-face classes in all levels both in public and private schools was declared based on the recommendation of the city's Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office.

Malabon City Administrator Alexander Rosete said Mayor Jeannie Sandoval suspended classes in all levels, public and private.
