Comelec: Know the candidates' platforms | The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Commission on Elections (Comelec)-7 Spokesperson Omar Sharif Mamalinta yesterday reminded voters to know the candidates' platforms of government so they can evaluate who they would vote for today as the rightful person for a particular position.

"Vote wisely on elections day so that the leaders that you're to vote for will be able to implement their platforms of government once they are declared as winners in their respective posts," he said.

He likewise told voters in today's Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to "be sure to know your precinct number and precinct sequence before going to the voting center."

This would help facilitate a more orderly conduct of the elections, where the electorate would vote for their new set of barangay and SK officials.

Mamalinta said that voters could either use the Comelec precinct finder, which can either be scanned through a QR Code or clicking the link at the Comelec website (www.comelec.gov.ph).

He said that just in case voters cannot access the website, they can proceed to the Comelec office where they are registered to ask about those data.

They could also proceed to the Voters Assistance Desk located near the entrance of every voting center, which is the public school or schools within the respective barangays, except for select Brgy. Parian, Cebu City and Pitogo, Consolacion, Cebu residents, who are voting today inside Robinson's Galleria and SM City Consolacion, respectively, as part of the mall voting center pilot testing.

Mamalinta likewise reminded the candidates that win or lose they must file their "Statement of Contributions and Expenditures" on or before Nov. 29, or around one month from now.

For today's elections, 43,804 candidates are vying for barangay and SK positions. Particularly in Cebu, 2,328, mostly males, are gunning for the barangay captain post, while  22,013 hopefuls are seeking barangay councilorial seats.

The SK race, on the other hand, has 2,687 candidates for the chairperson post and 16,454 for SK member seats.

Bohol, on the other hand, has 34,995 candidates for the BSKE, while Negros Oriental has 19,289 and Siquijor has 4,196.
