Comelec wraps up barangay, Sangguniang Kabataan polls

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 1) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday said it has completed the canvassing of votes and proclamation of winners for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE).

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said all 42,001 barangays nationwide conducted the polls.

«100% complete voting and canvassing nationwide. No failure of elections,» Garcia said in a message to reporters.

The last barangay processed was Barangay Naguma in Calbayog City, Samar.

The BSKE was held on Oct. 30 in over 200,000 voting centers nationwide.

Elections were moved to Tuesday in a number of barangays in Lanao del Sur and Samar over delays in the delivery of election paraphernalia and reports of violence.

The elections also marked the first time voting was held in 14 malls nationwide as part of a pilot test.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government on Tuesday issued a memorandum circular setting a three-week transition period for newly elected barangay and SK officials.

The Supreme Court earlier ruled that the next BSKE will be held on the first Monday of December 2025, noting that only the tenure of the winning candidates in the October polls is shortened, not the term of office.
