Companies alerted to deceptive scam impersonating Philstar.com, The STAR

MANILA, Philippines — Several companies have reported a scam involving deceptive emails supposedly from Philstar.com and its sister company, The Philippine STAR.

The fake emails claim to issue a warning about "Notice to the Public" ads and negative articles regarding the companies.

The senders use the names "JIMMY CANTOS" and "MARK MACAPAGAL," posing as "Senior Verifiers" from Philstar.com and The STAR. They use the fake identity to convince people to make an action, making it seem like they can "share their side of the story."

Philstar.com and The STAR have issued a warning, clarifying that they never use Gmail addresses, especially not [email protected] or [email protected] for official communication.

Companies are strongly advised not to respond to these deceptive emails. Instead, report any suspicious activity related to this scam to the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Division for investigation.
