Contecon Manzanillo handles record volume on a single vessel call

CONTECON Manzanillo S.A. (CMSA), a subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), made a new milestone with its handling of 14,400 TEUs during the recent call of the CMA CGM vessel APL Vanda.

«The operation on the APL Vanda, with more than 14,400 TEUs, is a historic milestone for Contecon Manzanillo and the entire Mexican port community,» said CMSA CEO José Antonio Contreras. «It reaffirms our capability to handle mega ships and large volumes per vessel call and consolidates the confidence of our customers, with whom we jointly support the development and growth of Mexico.»

APL Vanda, operating under CMA CGM's Asia Central South America service, is now the largest vessel to grace the port's shores, boasting an impressive 17,292 TEU capacity. Handling a total of 14,400 TEUs within 7,800 moves, CMSA's operation on the APL Vanda broke Mexico's port industry record for a single vessel operation.

This feat solidifies the Port of Manzanillo's position as a pivotal hub in global trade, with the ability to handle the mega-ships that have started to arrive on the shores of the Latin American Pacific.

CMSA has unveiled ambitious plans for expanding its capacity by over 40 percent in the next two years, showing its commitment to meeting the surging demands of the maritime industry and fostering regional economic development.

In June 2010, ICTSI entered into a significant 34-year concession to operate the second specialized container terminal at the Port of Manzanillo. This strategic positioning has transformed CMSA into Mexico's gateway to the Pacific coast, with convenient access to major consumer markets, including the bustling Mexico City and the nation's extensive industrial zones.
