Cyclone outside PAR weakens into LPA

MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) may re-intensify into a tropical depression, as it enters the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by today or Thursday, and will be named Kabayan.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the tropical depression outside of PAR weakened into an LPA yesterday, but could re-intensify into a cyclone.

The LPA is moving erratically and remains highly disorganized due to an unfavorable environment, but could reorganize into a tropical depression as it accelerates toward the Philippine landmass.

Within the PAR, the weather system could track westward until Friday as it slowly intensifies.

Moreover, PAGASA said the interaction between the weather disturbance and the shear line will bring heavy rainfall over the eastern portion of Mindanao on Friday.

Heavy rainfall is also forecast over the Bicol Region and most of the Visayas by Friday.

The shear line is already affecting southern Luzon, while the northeast monsoon is affecting Northern and Central Luzon.

The shear line is bringing scattered rains over the Bicol Region, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar and Samar.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon is bringing cloudy skies with rains over Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

Isolated light rains are forecast over the Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet and the rest of Central Luzon.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may see isolated rains due to the shear line and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
