DAR Kicks Off 2024 Estrella Cup Sportsfest to Promote Unity and Wellness

QUEZON CITY — The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) launched its highly anticipated 2-month long Sportsfest, known as the 2024 Estrella Cup, on July 15, 2024, at the Central Office in Quezon City. The theme for this year's event is "Just play, have fun, enjoy the game," highlighting the importance of camaraderie and enjoyment in sports.

DAR Secretary Conrado Estrella III officially opened the sportsfest, emphasizing its role in fostering friendship and unity among employees. In his opening remarks, he stated, “This sportsfest is not just about competition; it’s about building stronger bonds among our colleagues.” Secretary Estrella also administered the oath of sportsmanship to all participating athletes, underscoring the values of fairness and respect in the games.

The Sportsfest will feature a variety of games, including volleyball, basketball, badminton, lawn tennis, table tennis, darts, and chess. DAR Assistant Secretary Eugene Follante, head of the Sportsfest committee, highlighted the competitive spirit and health benefits of the event. “Our sector teams will vie for the overall champion of the 2024 Estrella Cup. This sportsfest will help reduce stress and improve the overall well-being of our employees,” Follante said.

The opening ceremony included a ceremonial toss by Secretary Estrella to commence the basketball exhibition game between the DAR team and the National Electrification Agency (NEA). Additionally, the DAR volleyball team faced off against NEA in another exciting exhibition match.

The event was graced by the presence of Undersecretaries Jesry Palmares, Lani de Leon, and Luis Meinrado Pangulayan; Assistant Secretaries Marjorie Ayson, Quentin Magsico, and Rene Colocar; as well as DAR Bureau directors. Special guest Alvin Patrimonio joined Secretary Estrella in the opening rites, adding star power to the festivities.

Another highlight of the opening day was a short pageant held for the team muses, adding a touch of glamour and entertainment to the event.

The 2024 Estrella Cup promises to be a season of fun, teamwork, and healthy competition, contributing to the overall morale and wellness of DAR employees.
