DepEd champions learner protection as National Children's month ends

The Department of Education highlighted measures in championing learner rights and protection in the culmination of this year's National Children's Month celebrations.

Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte said in her keynote speech on Monday that giving children a safe space in learning is vital for their development.

She added that the government is tasked to provide children with a «safe, nurturing, and loving life that allows them to play, learn, and grow into responsible, productive, and well-rounded individuals,»

«This task is binding and requires our will, commitment, and a strong sense of unity of purpose as a community of elected leaders, policy makers, educators, advocates, development partners, business development supporters, and parents all working together to champion Filipino Children,» Duterte said.

DepEd Learner Rights and Protection Office officer in charge Suzette Gannaban-Medina presented the Learner Rights and Protection Policy, an enhanced version of DepEd Order No. 40, s. 2012.

It includes recent laws in relation to learner protection.
