DFA probes email data breach
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is investigating the reported email data breach at the agency.
DFA spokesman Ma. Teresita Daza, in a text message, said the agency received reports that its email data was being sold online.
«The DFA has received reports of alleged email data being sold online. The Department's Information and Communications Technology Division is investigating the matter,» Daza said.
A group of cybersecurity enthusiasts under the handle «Deep Web Konek» (DWK) reported the alleged data breach on social media.
«A data breach has occurred at the Department of Foreign Affairs with sensitive email data now being sold online. The threat actor, identified as 'chengyi' is reportedly behind this breach. It is currently unknown if the data involves just a single or bulk email,» DWK posted on X (formerly Twitter.
DWK added that its team initially found out that the «sample provided contains sensitive documents and is marked as confidential documents.»
