DOH declares 'code white alert' in hospitals for Traslacion preparation

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 4)— All Department of Health (DOH) hospitals in Metro Manila will be on 'code white alert' from Jan. 5 to 11 to prepare for any medical emergency that may arise during the annual Traslacion in celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene on Jan. 9, officials said on Thursday.

«The activation of Code White Alert and deployment of health emergency response teams underscore our commitment to ensure prompt and efficient medical assistance in case of any medical emergency on the ground,» Health Secretary Ted Herbosa said.

The DOH earlier declared a similar alert for the holiday season from Dec. 20, 2023, to Jan. 4, 2024.

The declaration is usually put in place during national events, holidays or celebrations which can potentially cause mass casualties or emergencies.

Under code white alert, specified medical personnel and staff are placed on standby for immediate acceptance and treatment of patients at hospitals.

Eight health emergency response teams each equipped with an ambulance will strategically be deployed along the Traslacion routes, the DOH said.

The DOH said key locations will be at the Qurino Grandstand; Roxas Boulevard corner Ayala; Ayala Boulevard corner Taft; Ayala Boulevard corner San Marcelino; San Sebastian Church; Villarica, Quezon Boulevard; Quinta Market; and Paterno, Quezon Boulevard.

It strongly urged the public to observe the necessary precautions and safety measures during Traslacion. Wearing face masks and refraining from touching and kissing the figures or statues are advised by the health department to avoid transmission of communicable diseases.

The agency reminded attendees to drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration and avoid prolonged exposure to heat to prevent the risk of heat stroke.
