DoJ seeks clarification from Palace on rejoining ICC

MANILA, Philippines: The Department of Justice (DoJ) will seek clarification from Malacañang on whether the country will rejoin the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said this on Friday after resolutions were filed at the House of Representatives calling for the government of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to cooperate with the ICC investigation in the country's war on drugs.

«I will clarify if we have an intention to be members again of the ICC because of the House resolutions, how it affects the whole universe of the ICC, and the Philippine government as it is right now,» Remulla said.

Several House resolutions have been initiated urging the government to cooperate with the ICC investigation into the alleged abuses and killings committed during the previous administration's war on illegal drugs.

The Philippines is no longer a signatory to the Rome Statute, which established the ICC.
