DoT kicks off UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy
MACTAN, Cebu — The Department of Tourism (DoT) will host the first UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Asia and the Pacific on Wednesday in Cebu.
Gastronomy tourism has emerged as a key driver of tourist travel, with the World Food Travel Association estimating that over 80% of travelers look into food and drink when visiting a particular area and classifying more than half (53%) of those traveling as «culinary travelers.»
According to a Booking.com survey in 2023, 34% of tourists value restaurants and dining experiences as avenues in learning about local cultures and lifestyles.
«This event will not only elevate the Philippines as a gastronomic destination but also provide a platform for collaboration and exchange of knowledge among international culinary experts,» Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco said.
Delegates will also be able to enjoy the finest Philippine delicacies during a showcase featuring prominent Filipino chefs.
