Drivers of vehicles with '8' plates face arrest

(UPDATE) AUTHORITIES will arrest drivers of vehicles bearing «8» license plates, based on the agreement between the House of Representatives and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
«Last night, [we] formally agreed to apprehend the drivers of vehicles bearing '8' plates and confiscate the expired or spurious plates,» House Secretary General Reginald Velasco said in a statement on Wednesday.
Earlier, Velasco met with MMDA Acting Chairman Romando Artes to discuss the use of unauthorized and illegal special plates.
«The House leadership is committed to upholding the law and ensuring vehicle identification plates' proper and lawful use,» Velasco said.

Last week, he clarified that the House «has not released or authorized the use of official plates for vehicles of House Members.»
In a memorandum dated Nov. 16, 2023, for House members, Velasco requested «the immediate recall of all expired Protocol Plates No. 8 issued during the past Congresses as well as all spurious protocol 8 plates which may have come to your possession.»

He asked that such car plates be turned in to his office for proper acknowledgment.
