DSWD distributes P57.37M aid to Surigao quake victims

MORE than P57.37 million worth of food and non-food relief items have been distributed to the victims of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Surigao del Sur, data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) showed.

The DSWD- Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) said that as of December 9, a total of 176,357 families or 704,053 persons from 381 barangays in Regions XI (Davao) XIII (Caraga) have been affected by the December 2 quake whose epicenter was reported in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

A total of 829 families (3310 persons) are staying in seven evacuation centers and 21 families (63 persons) are staying with friends or relatives.

A total of 5,496 houses were also damaged during the quake.

The DSWD said it still has P2.79 million worth of cash (P180.3 million) and stockpiles of food and non-food items (P2.611 billion) on standby.
