DWAN returns

June 20 will mark three major comebacks in Philippine broadcasting. First, DWAN 1206, a radio juggernaut until the early 1980’s, goes back on the air. Secondly, the new incarnation of the sports program “Hardball” makes another splash on the airwaves. And third, this writer goes back to radio after more than 30 years.

When the IBC network was in full operation during Martial Law, DWAN was the number one radio station in the country. Now, thanks to the vision and sheer will of network president Jimmie Policarpio, whose deep expertise in broadcasting has quickly elevated IBC-13 to competitive status, DWAN will thrive again. Leading the charge is station manager Marc Logan, whose comic genius and creativity is squarely on the pulse of the masses.

News anchors Maan Macapagal and Zandro Ochona, formerly of ABS-CBN, start the day with their professional brand of news reportage. Sen. Francis “Tol” Tolentino makes his radio debut with public service and the inner workings of the chambers of lawmaking. Award-winning news personalities Audrey Gorriceta, Diane Querrer and the impressive Naomi Tiburcio will cross over from PTV to radio. Veteran newsreader Alice Noel, IBC newscasters Gabbie Natividad and Daniella Sangalang round out the solid news and current affairs team.

Completing other areas of interest are the dazzling showbiz insiders Ms. F (Fernan de Guzman) and Joey Austria. DJ Elaiza Cunanan and fresh talents Xyryll Manahan and Jassy will likewise make waves. In another bold move, podcasters Samantha Ramirez and Josh Malonzo will offer insights and probe into Gen Z daily. And the beloved former 89 DMZ (Dance Music Zone) jock DJ Sting (aka Terence Khan) uses his encyclopedic knowledge of music to fill your nights.

Aside from all of these innovations, DWAN has also brought in this writer for “Hardball with Bill Velasco” a daring move to have a daily one-hour
