Easterlies prevail as southwest monsoon weakens

MANILA, Philippines— As the southwest monsoon or habagat temporarily weakened, the easterlies will prevail in most areas of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday.

The easterlies — winds coming from the east that pass through the Pacific Ocean that carry humid and warm weather — are affecting the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao.

It will bring partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in Bicol region, Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao region.

Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the country will enjoy storm-free weather in the coming days.

«Most parts of the country could experience fair weather conditions all throughout the day except for isolated downpours in the afternoon or at night,» the Pagasa forecaster said.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have isolated downpours or thunderstorms due to the localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said in its 5 a.m. advisory.
