Ex-Marikina solon, Manila mayor join Lakas-CMD

FORMER Marikina Rep. Romero Quimbo and Manila City Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Honrado Lacuna-Pangan and yesterday joined the ruling Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD).

Party president Speaker Martin Romualdez administered the oath of membership separately to Lacuna and Quimbo during simple rites held at the social hall of the Speaker’s Office, where he stressed the strategic importance of the new members in bolstering the party’s support for the programs and policies of President Marcos Jr.

The Speaker expressed confidence that Lacuna, a former member of the Aksyon Demokratiko, and Quimbo, a former Liberal Party stalwart, “would provide significant contributions in upholding the principles and objectives of Lakas-CMD, reinforcing the party’s dedication to serving the Filipino people.”

“Their leadership, experience, and commitment to serve our people greatly enhance our collective efforts to support the Agenda for Prosperity of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and his vision for ‘Bagong Pilipinas’,” he said.

Lacuna became the first female mayor of the city of Manila after winning the 2022 mayoralty race. She started her political career as a member of the City Council in 2004 and was elected as vice mayor in 2016.

Quimbo served as the representative of Marikina’s second congressional district from 2010 to 2019. He was one of the deputy speakers of the House of Representatives o from 2016 to 2018.

Quimbo was accompanied during the oath-taking ceremony by his wife, incumbent Marikina 2nd District Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo.

In a show of solidarity and support, Manila Vice Mayor Yul Servo and 20 members of the City Council accompanied Lacuna to the oath-taking rites.

Likewise, Manila Reps. Irwin Tieng (fifth district), Joel Chua (third district), Edward Maceda (fourth district), Rolando Valeriano (second district), and Bienvenido Abante (sixth district) joined Lacuna during the ceremony.
