Ex-Pag-IBIG chief named UP law dean

FORMER Pag-IBIG Fund president Darlene Marie Berberabe has been named as the new dean of the University of the Philippines College of Law.

Berberabe replaced Chancellor Edgardo Carlo Vistan II.

“The Board of Regents in its 1385th meeting selected Atty. Darlene Marie Berberabe and Dr. Ma. Patricia Brillantes Silvestre as the next Deans of the College of Law and College of Music of UP Diliman, respectively,” the Board of Regents of the state-run university announced yesterday afternoon.

Berberabe beat Gwen Grecia-De Vera, an associate professor in the college, for the post.

She graduated from the UP College of Law in 1999 as the class salutatorian and worked as a corporate counsel for Procter & Gamble before she became the President of Pag-IBIG Fund in 2010.

She left Pag-IBIG Fund in 2017 and headed PhiLab Industries, Inc.

Berberabe is also a senior lecturer at the UP College of Law and a Professorial Lecturer on Jurisprudence and Legal Philosophy at the Philippine Judicial Academy.

The UP College of Law opened its search for a new dean several months after Vistan was appointed as chancellor of the Diliman campus last April.
