First Lady trains guns on Sara

(UPDATE) FIRST LADY Liza Araneta-Marcos acknowledged Thursday she no longer thinks well of Vice President Sara Duterte, in another sign of the growing rift between the two politically powerful families.

«Bad shot na yan sa akin. I mean, for me, I was hurt because my husband will do everything to protect you,» she said, recalling how the vice president attended a prayer rally in her hometown Davao City in which her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, accused President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of being a drug addict.

In a teaser video for the YouTube show «Tune in Kay Tunying,» Mrs. Marcos said she was always kind to Duterte, but she had crossed the line.

«You ran together, right? Together we will rise again, then you will go to the rally, calling your President 'bangag,' (drug-addled) right? You're going to laugh, is that right? Even Leni [Robredo] never did that,» she said, referring to the former vice president who ran for president against Mr. Marcos in 2022.

Recent videos of the first lady snubbing the vice president during recent send-offs for President Marcos' recent overseas trips have fanned rumors of tension between the two women.

Sara's father and her brothers — Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte — have been critical of Marcos since the President expressed the possibility of rejoining the International Criminal Court (ICC), which is investigating the former president on allegations of crimes against humanity in his bloody war on drugs.

The Dutertes have been staging rallies in their hometown of Davao City, too, to protest the economic Charter change effort, which they claimed was a step toward a term extension for the President.

«Be content that God gave you a chance to serve the country as president… despite bad history during your father's term,» the former president said during a rally in Davao del Norte, referring to Marcos.

Former president Duterte also accused Marcos of using illegal drugs.

Marcos, in response to Duterte's verbal assault, said he thought «it's the fentanyl» speaking.
