Food tourism to boost economic growth

TOURISM Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said food tourism has strong potential to boost economic growth and cultural interchange in the Asia-Pacific region.

«Gastronomy tourism is not just about indulging in delicious food; it also has immense economic and cultural benefits for the Asia-Pacific region,» Frasco said during the 3rd World Tourism Industry Conference and Business Luncheon on Thursday.

«This form of tourism attracts food enthusiasts from all over the world, creating opportunities for local businesses, farmers, artisans, and the like,» added Frasco, chairman of the UN Tourism Commission for East Asia and the Pacific.

Results of a 2023 Booking.com survey said 34 percent of tourists value restaurants and dining experiences as doorways to learning about local cultures and lifestyles.
