Ginebra zooms to 2-0 start, sinks Phoenix
MANILA, Philippines: Barangay Ginebra unleashed a crippling third quarter run to beat Phoenix, 102-92 for its second straight win in three days in the main game of the Season 48 PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Gin Kings turned a four-point halftime lead to a 79-62 bubble after outscoring the Fuel Masters, 32-19 in the third quarter.
While the Fuel Masters tried to make one last push, the Gin Kings showed composure to get off to a 2-0 start in the conference.
Ginebra opened the conference either a 112-107 triumph over Rain or Shine on Friday.
Jamie Malonzo led Ginebra with 17 points and 11 rebounds, Stanley Pringle added 13, while Christian Standhardinger, Nards Pinto and rookie Ralph Cu had 12 apiece.
Jason Perkins led Phoenix (0-2) with 14 points, while Javee Mocon chipped in 13, nine rebounds and six assists in a losing effort.
