Gladiators, Selections reign supreme in Centurion hoopla | The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Area 2 Gladiators and the Area 1 Selections emerged as champions in their respective divisions in the Centurion Security Agency, Inc. Basketball Tournament 2023 at the San Isidro Parish School (SIPS) gym in Barangay Talamban, Cebu City recently.

The Gladiators prevailed over the Centurion Admin Batallion, 80-75, in their sudden-death final to clinch the seniors title.

Edfer Mark Deza, the MVP, spearheaded the Gladiators’ gallant charge towards crowning glory together with Victor Ugnay, and Ebie Garcitos. They all made it to the Mythical Five alongside Admin Batallion’s Roberto Curiba and John Acosta Solijon.

In the battle for third place, D’Legends escaped past the Centurion Head Guards, 82-78.

On the other hand, the Selections silenced the Shooters, 89-81, to grab the juniors crown.

Eljer Auxtero was named MVP for his all-around brilliance for the Selections. He was joined in the Mythical Five by  his teammates Godfrey Almohallas and Harley Tumabiene and Renante Petagara and Jayco Gaviola of the Shooters.

In the other result, the Defenders downed the Spotters, 77-70, to lift the third place trophy.

Aside from trophies, the champions from both divisions received a P20,000 cash prize. The second and third placers pocketed P15,000 and P10,000, respectively. The MVPs got medals and P3,000 incentives.

The management of Centurion Security Agency, Inc. led by their president and general manager Atty. Michelle Mendez-Palmares organized the event as part of Centurion’s 58th anniversary celebration.

Mendez-Palmares, an ex-officio director of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Cebu City Chapter as its immediate past president, is currently the Deputy Governor of IBP Eastern Visayas Region.

Her sister Jasmin Mendez-Pages, the wife of Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) chairman John Pages, served as the league commissioner.
