Gov’t to extend validity of e-visas of foreigners

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 5) – The Philippine government is working on measures that will allow the extension of electronic visas (e-visa) of foreigners staying in the country, Malacañang said Sunday.

“We will find a way to do it. We are doing it (extending the e-visa),” President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said during the courtesy visit of Indian Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran to Malacañang last week.

The Palace said Marcos responded to the ambassador's request to extend the validity of the e-visas of Indian nationals in the country.

The President added that measures for e-visa extensions will be implemented not only for Indian nationals but also for other foreigners in the country.

In August, the Department of Foreign Affairs launched the Philippine e-visa system, which allows foreign nationals to apply for tourist visas remotely through their personal computers, laptops, or mobile devices

The e-visa system will “encourage tourists to visit the Philippines and experience our country's rich and vibrant culture,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo said during the launching.

Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy previously explained that expanding the program would take time. He said there is an “anti-fraud element that needs to be consolidated with the platform," as well as processes that are needed to connect other nations to the system.
