Govt needs 'new blood' – Marcos

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday recognized the role of the youth in nation-building as he led the oath-taking of 31 newly elected officers of the Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) national and island representatives in Malacañang.

«It is very clear that government, for example, needs to be revitalized, needs to have new blood, needs to have new ideas, needs to have that determination and that energy, that maybe the very high-ups have lost sight of,» the President said in his speech.

Marcos added that the technologically adept youth of today should be involved in building a progressive society.

«That kind of intuitive and instinctive knowledge from the youth is what we need. The future is going to be technology-driven, and that is why the natural instinct of younger people, when it comes to technology, is important. It has to be part of all our thinking. It has to be part of all our planning,» he said.

Marcos said the original purpose of Kabataang Barangay, created during the term of his father, was to engage the youth in public affairs.

«If you think there is a better way of doing things then tell us, shout it out. The old people might ignore you, but keep pushing it,» he said.
