Groseclose misses short-track final

GANGWON, South Korea – Peter Groseclose pushed hard but fell short in the men’s 1500-meter short-track speed skating at the Fourth Winter Youth Olympic Games yesterday.

Groseclose, 16, was fifth in his qualification race of the event dominated by South Korean athletes.

“It was a difficult first race and was one of the fastest races for the day,” Groseclose’s coach, John-Henry Krueger, said.

Groseclose clocked two minutes and 20.575 seconds in his heat Germany’s Lowie Dekens topped in 2:18.473. He will be back Sunday for the 1,000m race and Monday for the 500m.

Laetaz Amihan Rabe, the Phl flag-bearer during Friday’s opening, will vie in the women’s slopestyle and big air events on Jan. 24 and 28.
