Half of BSKE winners in Malabon snub oath-taking

MANILA, Philippines — A mass oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSKE) officials was held at the Malabon City Sports Complex yesterday, but most of the winners were notably absent during the event.

The ceremony drew the attention of city hall employees and police personnel due to the number of vacant seats designated for the winning BSKE candidates.

The oath-taking marked the commencement of their two-year term, which will end in December 2025.

According to the local government, out of 21 Malabon barangays, only 11 elected barangay captains and 10 SK officials attended the oath-taking.

Malabon Mayor Jeannie Sandoval and the city’s Department of the Interior and Local Government officer-in-charge Jess Marie Alcoba administered the oath of office of the elected BSKE officials.

In her speech, Sandoval emphasized the importance of building a community that ensures that “no Malabueño is left behind.”

Vice Mayor Bernard de la Cruz and city councilors also attended the event.

Sheryl Nolasco, who has been recognized as a model for community-based disaster risk management since 2016, was reelected barangay captain of Potrero.
